A conversation with Ifetayo Harvey of the People of Color Psychedelic Collective
Drug Policy & Basic Human Needs
I spoke with Ifetayo Harvey about the criminalization of black and brown communities through the War on Drugs, the extensive reach of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and what drug policy focused on basic human needs could look like. Our conversation was inspired by her awesome, accessible article in the Fordham Law Review , “Time to Abolish the DEA: Evaluating the Agency’s Failures and Calling for Community Investments.”
Ifetayo Harvey is the founder and executive director of the People of Color Psychedelic Collective (POCPC) which brings psychedelic education to people of color by creating opportunities to learn about the healing properties of these substances, as well as the harms of the decades-long War on Drugs. On April 20, POCPC is hosting a workshop called “Sacred Pathways: A Journey through Psychedelic Care and Healing Modalities,” that will focus on healing trauma through psychedelic modalities and highlight the work of four practitioners of color in the field: Victor Cabral, MSW, LSW, CCTP-I; Logina Mostafa, MPH; Tanya Marck Oviedo; and Noor Ramadhan.
